"Would We Be Killed"

In the Article the Native Americans were marginalized by getting pulled from there homes without permission from there parents. The text said "Soon parents weren't asked to enroll there kid they were forced." This sentence told me that the whites were pushing indians away and doing things the way they wanted. They were taken away by force from there family's and tribes. They felt they didn't exist anymore after the white people erased there roots. "kill the Indian" explained how the whites tried to change the Indian into a sophisticated person. Shorter hair, Better clothes and they were taught how to live a life of a white person, cleaning, making things etc.

The purpose of Shanice Britton's essay was to show the reader that just because she's Native American doesn't make her any different from any other person. She tells the reader about how she doesn't know allot from her ancestors but that she's learning as much as she can. She fells that since she's native american other people are going to think of her different, for example what she does at home or with her friends. Shanice does everything a normal teenage girl does. She wants the reader that she still does things her native americans do but she also does the normal. In the text it said "she participates in tribe ceremonies" This tells me that she still likes doing what her parents taught her but then the ext said "She's following her dream of becoming a vet" This told me that she also wants to follow her carer dream which is normal and wasn't expected by native americans back then.
